This stuff is a lifesaver for etching before painting tub or china toilet. Used almost half a box of sandpaper on an orbital sander just to do a lid and front of a tank. I figured that there must be a better way !! This stuff makes it really easy and does a better job !! Rinsing after is a real mess but when its done it looks like it was sandblasted !! Great product when used as directed.. This is not meant for etching glass designs but for prepping items prior to refinishing. CAUTION..this stuff etches anything it comes in contact with,Wear gloves and protect your eyes, make sure you rinse the item very well and wipe down after it is dry as the paint will not stick to the etching residue. Stuff does what it says and really can save you a lot of time and headaches !!

The price is good, the shipping was great. However, after multiple tests and times on glass And after using preparation techniques perfected using other etching products. This product consistently left inconsistent etches on the glass. Specifically despite an even application of product as wall as varying set times, the etching on completion had un-etched areas within the etched surfaces. We were very hopeful that this product would be equal to those we currently use but alas it did not make the mark (no pun intended).

Ceramic tile must be deglossed before paint will adhere. Hours of sanding or minutes of brushing on and washing off ... you decide which you want to do! I've used this etching cream before with wonderful results. In fact, I had some that was years old and it still worked on the project for which I bought this quart. My ceramic tile shower is very large and I wanted to be extra positive the paint would adhere so I used this cream twice. The etching is phenomenal and will provide plenty of "tooth" for the paint. I use a spray gun from Lowe's that only costs about $50, and it lays down a beautiful coat. The paint you want to use is also X-I-M brand called "TILE DOC." It is a two part epoxy that is gloss white, but can be tinted to pastel colors and is DESIGNED for painting ceramic tile! Keep in mind the grout lines get painted so gloss white works best. Use two medium coats and you will be amazed at the results. I painted "sunflower yellow" tile the first time I used these products ... several years ago. That tile remains glossy white and no one can tell it was ever painted. If you need to paint ceramic tile and want it to stick and look beautiful ... use X-I-M Etching Cream and TILE DOC paint. If you prep and paint according to directions, you will get astounding results!Read full review

Had a pink elvis bathtub to get rid of. I put the etch on a test spot and saw results in minutes. The tub was a cast iron with a glaze finish. It left a heavy to light pitting. I just brushed it on a moved it around with a plastic scraper. The quarter was more than enough. It left a residue that you will need to scrub off. I used steel wool. Then I used a surface primer, I sanded to level the heavy etching, the primer stuck very well. I followed with epoxy white sealer and top coated with por 15 2k urethane. It seemed to have better pigment that the Rust Oleum bathtub kit.

After looking at all the etch creams, and comparing prices. XIM etch cream offers a quart size tub. The price beat all the other etch cream by far. 1 quart for less than $26.00, compared to the other products, that was asking $10.00- $15.00 for a 10 oz bottle. After using XIM, I am very pleased with the results. There is very little of any smell. (The other products stated, "use in a well ventilated area"). I would recommend this product to anyone, looking for etch cream.
