These are a nice strings for a Short Scale Bass. I put them on a 30.3 scale Gretsch Bass and they really sound good! Not as bright as Round Wounds but twice as Smooth. I think they would work on a fretless fingerboard as well....

All my basses have flat wound strings on them. Recently I purchased a 1956 Danelectro bass reissue. It is a short scale bass. I needed flat wound strings and D'DDARIO ECB81S Chromes light strings are what I chose to string it with. These strings are great. They feel right. They give me good tension. The bass sound and plays great. Game over. I may never need new strings, but if I do, I will put the same strings on this bass.

Awesome tone and feel. No other strings compare in terms of playability. And really made the PJ pickups on my Squier VM Jaguar SS come alive. Will always string that bass with these.
