Mini Review and Comparison of FX-888D and WE1010

Compares well to the WE1010. The soldering iron handles comfortably. The button interface requires a little getting used to it, but is actually quite easy to learn, the programmable Presets are more than adequate for soldering situations normally encountered. The soldering iron stand is well thought out and is stable enough. Curiously, the form grows on you. First it looks like a toy. After a while it seems quite nice. When soldering large copper areas, both the WE1010 and the Hakko handle it quite well. Do not use cheap clone tips. The problem with the cheap chinese clone tips is, that they are considerably oversized and loose a lot of heat. The wall thickness is also less. The only easy to get good heat transfer with those tips is to find some thin coper foil to push the tip to ...

Not Much Concern for Safety or Energy Consumption

It has no sleep timer, which is pretty much standard on every decent soldering iron today. Even a $35 setup will come with this safety feature. The tech is nothing new and costs the manufacturer pennies to include. There are also other features that they could include for this price. This model is the most basic of basic. Also, the control box gets very hot, while heat from the iron dissipates more rapidly than it is produced. Build quality & materials used seem ok.

  • Great product

Hello. I've been repairing tvs for a long time. I have had several soldering irons over the years and I finally decided to buy a nice one. This one has plenty of power and stays at the temp you set it. If you repair any type of electronics this is a must have. I have used it now for a few days and it took a little getting used to just the style of iron but I have no complaints. It's like they engineered this just the way you want it to be and should be. Couldn't be happier. If your in the market for a high quality soldering iron station. This is hands down best in the market for the professional or the hobbiest. Do your research and you will see this is the one to buy. Great quality

  • Great soldering station!

Advertised as lightly used for demo, was like new for great price! Works fantastic, heats fast, easy temperature adjustments and compact size. Works perfectly even bigger (10-12) gauge wires. Worked great on my car stereo upgrade project and it is perfect for my modeling hobby!

  • Hakko FX888D-23BY soldering station

This soldering station works as expected. The reviews on it are accurate. The pencil is light, the speed to heat the iron is very quick. I have an old (over 50 year old Weller 120v pencil iron that I bought new and I’ve built many projects with. In the old Heathkit days I built color TV’s, stereos, etc. and a VTVM that I still use. My Weller soldering iron still works well, but I’ll probably never use it again as this Hakko unit heats up fast and has better heat recovery than my old Weller. The cleaning station/ iron holder is great too. I’ve used the analog Weller soldering station units at my last job. They work great too, but they take longer to heat up. No big deal really. But this Hakko is very fast. You are soldering almost as soon as you sit down to the task and pickup the iron. I’m ...
