They are on the harder side. Not as hard as Pentel or Sakura Cray Pas Junior, but not as soft as Mungyo, Paul Rubens or Sennelier. Nice selection of colors, good pigmentation, few crumbs, blend well, and play well with other brands; so they can be used as first layers to save your more expensive oil pastels for the end. Very affordable and the best thing, they are also sold open stock, so if you run out of a color, there's no need to buy a whole set again, just go ahead and buy the color you need, or if you use certain colors a lot, buy more of those, or create your personal palette if you feel 48 colors are unnecessary for your style. I said 48 colors, cause there are 50 oil pastels in the box, but 2 are whites.

Sakura Cray Pas Oil Pastels are the best oil pastels in this price range. They are soft but not too soft, heavily pigmented, easy to mix and smoosh for the effects your artistic eyes are trying to achieve. Excellent value & quality. The purples and reds are especially yummy!
