Pros: Apparently it's more comfortable for people with glasses than the Oculus producs, and significantly cheaper than the Valve Index as of this writing (February 2020). Lastly, it's cross compatible with Valve Index/HTC vive accessories, so you can upgrade only what you want to upgrade, and replace only what breaks, etc. However, you can do the same with the Oculus products, it just takes some extra work and may not work as well from what I've read online. Cons: The lenses on the HTC Vive and HTC Vive pro are fragile. This may be true for Oculus HMDs or the Valve Index, however, be extremely cautious with these lenses. If they rub against your glasses, they'll get scratched. Luckily, you can fix this with a cheap tube of Polywatch for plastic lens. It leaves the lenses as good as new, even if the scratches are severe or there are chips. There are also some Healingshield 50mm curved screen protectors for watches that both protect and make shallow scratches disappear. I strongly recommend using these to protect the lens as soon as they're out of the box. If you don't wear glasses, however, there's not much to worry about. Things to keep in mind: You can adjust the distance from the display to your face by pressing a button. Use this to make room for glasses. I made the mistake of using it on the closest setting with glasses on, while unaware that my glasses were touching the lens which led to scratches (that I later removed with Polywatch). You can adjust the pupillary distance of the lens with a scroll wheel on the side of the headset, use this to get a better viewing experience. Settings vary by people. There's an unofficial lens mod available for this headset. I advise strongly against it, though I haven't tried it myself. Headfset can get a little hot, which doesn't bother me. I bet they all do. But I live in an extremely hot 90+ degree place, and after a few hours I had to turn it off, tracking was starting to fail horrendously, as if the computer stopped seeing the headset. No big deal, it was a one time occurance on a summer-like afternoon. I got this HTC Vive Pro starter kit for $650 open-box (actually mildly used, but essentially mint.) Which was a great deal in my opinion, considering that the HMD costs $650 by itself. And the kit brand new retails for $800 to $800 right now. This kit is as good as the Valve Index (in my opinion, haven't tried it) I strongly recommend this if you're using glasses or want to use vive trackers or have any real upgradeability.Read full review

Great experience, much better than I anticipated. I was astonished by the depth perception and the precise tracking in my every movement. My first experience with this product was in Fallout 4 VR. Pixels are overt and hard to ignore, however, it’s compensated by the smooth movement that makes aiming down sight effortless. This product offers the best VR experience anyone could ask for currently.

With the release of Half Life Alyx, I decided to upgrade from our original oculus. The vive pro base stations have very accurate tracking. I couldn't find any dead spots in a 10x12 room. The HMD is great, but has a noticeable "sweet spot". The center of your vision is crisp, but anything off center is blurry. I ended up doing the gear VR lens swap to fix it. Other then that, the display performs very well. The high refresh rate give a nausea free experience, if your PC is powerful enough to maintain 90fps. The only real negative are the wand controllers. These things are so clunky and unintuitive. The original oculus touch controllers feel so much more natural. The haptic feedback reminds me of the n64 rumble pack. Just a generic buzzing. The palm grip is so clunky to use, that most games don't even have it mapped by default. I really wish there was a way to use my oculus controllers with my vive pro. Unfortunately I was not able to play Alyx with the wands. I tried, and just couldn't deal with constantly hitting the controllers together every time I had to reload. I'd say that index controllers are a must!Read full review

I am a programmer and I think this system is what a programmer needs to do whatever they want. Mix it with Vive Trackers and get to it!
