Great pitcher, but does it really remove all the TDS, as claimed?
We really love this pitcher. It fills so quickly, not endlessly slow and tedious like the big brands. We also love the way the water tastes after filtering. However, one has to question if this water filter is taking out all the TDS (Total Dissolved Solids) as claimed. I will first note that we are on Houston "city water", not well water or artesian water. As a result of this, and an older system of piping, we have a high TDS to begin with. Our water also goes through a 4-stage, reverse osmosis filter before entering our home. Before filtering with the Nakii we have a TDS reading of 139ppm. After it is only reduced to 124ppm. Not very dramatic. However, there is an appreciable taste difference. We checked to make certain the filter was installed perfectly, and it was. No leakage visible around the sides of the filter. All that being said, it is so efficient. We purchased a 1 gallon pitcher which we fill from the Nakii, and keep in a separate fridge. That is always chilled, always perfect. The pitcher is kept on a kitchen countertop, and is constantly refilled throughout the day. It makes superb tasting water to be consumed "as is", put over ice, or mixed with a dry drink mix and put over ice. The last thing I wanted to note is that the filters (these are the flat Nakii filters, not the cone shaped ones) seem to be cheaper than the competition. Generally they are available at under $10 (US), as opposed to other brands which cost at least 50% more. Overall a great filter setup, and very attractive, as well. We did a good deal of research prior to deciding on this unit. Reading the various feedback comments from other purchasers really helped, and was a deciding factor on this purchase.Read full review
