Online reviews are not a statistical sampling. I’ve seen a lot of concerns on this product, but after a few days with it, I’m happy enough. My two biggest concerns are: 1) will this alert us if CO levels are elevated in the house? From the material packed with this, it sure seems as though First Alert has done its homework. 2) When the two AA batteries backing this up are dying, will this wake us up at 3 AM, as so many of our fire alarms do? From the instructions, it looks like if—oh, heck, when—that happens, the Silence button will shut up the device for 8 hours. And with the readout screen, we’ll be able to tell that this is the device annoying us, rather than one of the others. It’s supposed to last 7 years. Some reviews indicate these don’t always last that long. I’m willing to take the risk—apparently, and end-of-life for the sensor will also generate a chirp and a notice on the LED.Read full review

the whole benefit to a plug-in detector is long-term reliability 9assuming that power doesn't go out!). with the battery back-up, when the battery begins to fail, then a chirp is emitted, even though there is no problem with the availability of power. I also own other brands of plug in units that continue to function as long as there is electrical power, regardless of the life of the battery. as such, I would NOT recommend this unit because it requires attention when the battery begins to run down.

I has a similar model by the same manufacturer and it lasted 7 years. I guess that is about the usual life of a detector. The only issue I had was it was hard to understand. When a minor alarm went off I had to find the instructions to figure out what the alarm meant. I decided to go with the digital version this time and I am glad I did. Seems much easier to comprehend. I expect the same quality and life from this unit.

A carbon monoxide alarm is a must have for any home. This one is very easy to install. Put in the included back up batteries and plug it in. That’s all there is to it. I put in the wall outlet in the kitchen outside the door to the garage.
