This cable tester works great. At $5 I bought two for different toolboxes. It would be a 5 except the switch is tight and the pressure needed to turn it on feels like I’m going to break it. The other thing is the speed of the lights- even on slow is too fast. If your just making a straight cable it’s not an issue but making a crossover cable takes several runs to catch the right sequence of lights. Tip: make a sticker with the sequence of lights for the crossover and put it under the lights on the receiver. I started this review with a 4 rating and the decided, “Oh why not give it a 5”? It works fine for $5!

Unit comes in its own case, keeps it clean, a little tight to get in and out, may be easier to not use case for everyday use. Does separate if you need to test installed line, lights up and verifies correct wiring.

I had to go buy a battery, once I got it installed tester worked great. It works when both ends are connected to tester, lights up. Also found out lights up when you have it connected to the modem or switcher and tester connected to other end. Would recommend it to family or friends.

I really want to return this item. It’s really very poor qualoty product. The moment I add the battery it start wiered high pitch sound which was hurting my ears.
