This product works, but can lead to disasters if used incorrectly. Be sure to follow the instructions.

First problem:

I used it to transfer from one HP Pavillion, Windows 7 Pro, to another HP Pavillion, Windows 7 Pro. Sounds easy and straightforward, right? Wrong! Both computers use AMD display drivers, BUT not the same drivers. My new HP ended up by displaying the infamous "MOM implementation error, Windows 7" This did not affect the operation of the HP to my knowledge, but is an annoying and troublesome pop-up after every reboot. Fortunately, AMD can download correcting drivers which fix this problem. My new HP is back in good health. Google "AMD drivers" for more information.

Second problem, and Laplink PCMover warns us about this one:

Many installed programs on the sending computer can be transferred and operated with no problem. Some cannot be transferred. Some will transfer, but not work so must be uninstalled then installed from scratch on the new computer. I suggest transferring and testing one program at a time. This allows the option of "unmigrating", then installing from scratch.

Third problem, and Laplink also warns us about this one: PCMover can be used only once so be sure to transfer-test, transfer-test one program at a time before removing PCMover from the two computers. Whether or not this saves time over installing from scratch I can't say.

It did just what it was supposed to do. It moved my programs and settings. I was worried that Microsoft office would require that the product key be re-entered, but it was there and working fine without me having to do anything. I was wary of the product after reading some of the reviews, but no problem moving from XP to Vista even. I would recommend this to anyone who wants to migrate the contents of their old computer to a new one.

This sotware product is pretty poorly designed. You don't get a lot of options on what you can move. Most importantly, it didn't move all of my documents. Some are flat out missing. Very bizarre. The user interface and installation are not poorly organized.

Moving settings from one system to another is always a dicey proposition, but I thought this would be a simple way to move documents, favorites, e-mail PST files, etc. It wasn't. I'm now manually moving things. Save your money and just buy an external hard drive.

Big Con: You can not clone or make a bootable hard drive with it. Since Dell doesn't give you an OS disk when you buy from them you can not migrate from a Dell to a new computer with this.

I built a new windows 7 computer. Had a Windows XP desktop and Windows Vista Laptop. I spent two days trying all combinations of both programs on all combinations of the three computers to try to to transfer everything to my new one. The software is archaic, very difficult and time consuming to use. You are required to upgrade once it is installed. Then you are required to delete it before installing the upgrade assistant. Then it has to be rteinstalled and upgraded once you are done with the Upgrade Assistant. You have to go through the same 6 screens of typing your name and company, accepting information, license agreements, enter keys, reject installation of more junk toolbars, and reject licenses for the junk, each and every time on you try to do something on each and every computer. I was able to transfer my user files to the new computer from the desktop, but only after having to reformat the hard drive twice after the transferred applications corrupted it. By the time I got to the laptop for its user files I got a message to go to the website and buy another key because I had installed it too many times! After two days and carpal tunnel I gave up, downloaded a free version of HDClone and had at least the laptop up and running with that. For all you Republicans out there: PCMover is what you can expect everywhere in a deregulated marketplace.

I used PCMover to migrate my wife's 7 year old computer with XP Home to a 1 year old computer with XP Professional. I cleaned up the old computer before starting the migration. Cleared old files from My Documents and My Pictures and backed the remaining ones to 16 gig thumb drive, deleted old applications and defragmented the hard drive.

The QuickStart instructions with PCMover were easy to follow to load on both computers and start the migration. I used the USB transfer cable. I moved almost all of the applications - the new computer had a newer version of MS Office, so I left the older version. The migration took a bit over 4 hours to complete, about the time it would have taken me to shuffle CD's to load the apps manually. But, I could leave it to run by itself.

Upside: PCMover allowed me to select what to move and saved me the manual reload. It moved Photoshop Elements, Olympus digital camera software, WebCam software, software for an Epson and a Canon printer, and all of her treasured jpeg files.

Downside: It failed to take care of fully installing some software, some drivers and the wireless card. I had to take care of that manually.

I will use PCMover again when our other computer is ready to be replaced.

I purchased this software to move from my data from a Windows XP computer to a new computer with Windows 7 Home Premium. It was very easy to use and it di a fair job of moving my data. I did have some problems on the new system and had to completely delete a user id that it had brought from the old computer and redefine it. The problem was Microsoft Outlook related.

I would not recommend this product for use by a novice computer user. If you know your way around in Window, then you should be able to use this product and fix whaever it did not do correctly.

I used this software and the software supplied with Windows 7 to finally get all of my data transferred.
