From the manufacturer
Fender Musical Instruments Corporation
An American icon, Fender was founded in Southern California and has established a worldwide influence that extends from the studio to the stage—and beyond.
Nearly seven decades since founder Leo Fender built his first electric guitar, Fender’s reach transcends instruments and accessories, encompassing a range of innovative digital experiences that fuel musical expression and serve players at every stage–on every stage.
Transforming Music One Guitar at a Time
Leo Fender wanted to craft an instrument that was as functional as it was easy to use. It was a primitive-looking object that was tough as nails, its powerful name inspired by another groundbreaking invention: the television. And with its revolutionary electrified tone, it would change the way music was made—forever. When someone asks, “Why Fender electrics?” the answer is clear. Fender guitars were designed to be louder, and exciting tones they produced are still engrained into our cultural DNA.
The First Word in Electric Bass
In 1951, we wanted to liberate musicians from the confines of the upright bass. And we did it by introducing a brand-new instrument with a bold, new sound. That instrument was the Precision Bass, a name that would not only become synonymous with rock ‘n’ roll, but also shape its very being. As time went on, we created new instruments to cater to a new, evolving type of musician: the electric bassist.

Then there is the tone. It makes a bass sound like a bass. Rounds kind of sound like a normal guitar, just pitched lower, but flats have that percussive thump, and a different harmonic series that gives them a real players sound. They make your bass guitar, more of a bass guitar if that makes sense.
Far from being dead sounding, I got a good slap sound without any effort at all, and I was also able to lower the action on my guitar a little more without buzz, which combined had me slapping and popping like a fool. You do lose some of the higher harmonics, which makes the strings sound a little more like an upright bass, and a little less like the bass strings in a piano with their harmonic overtones.
Lastly, the dynamics are impressive. Whether using your fingers or a pick, the attack is a solid thump and a little faster than rounds. This makes percussive playing especially effective at locking it down with the drums. I play direct to my Fender amplifier without any compression and its sometimes challenging to keep consistent dynamics. I found my ability to control the volume with my fingers and playing techniques was easier for me on flats. It felt more responsive to changes in fingering resulting in slightly easier consistency, but also allowing for rapid changes in volume simply by plucking harder, using single index fingering, etc.
If you're a slapper, don't waste your money on these! If you're a real bass player who likes a round, pleasing sound for jazz, folk music, C&W, Latin then this is for you. Pitch those beginner strings that came with your new bass. This set has tone - not twang.
NOTE: I'm a collector and bought a new/used G&L L2500 Tribute with .045 - .100 roundwounds and have debated selling it because it sounded nasely and twangy. I thought the pickups were bummers! I installed this set of strings - MAGIC! The difference is the stainless steel flatwounds. REMEMBER: 50% of the tone of your instrument is because of your strings. Research it!
I love the sound. They're warm, but also have a distinctive clarity that definitely cuts through. Because of the low tension compared to heavier gauge stings, they are easy on the fingers and are a breeze to play. I was so impressed with these Fender Flatwounds, I put them on all my bass guitars. Highly recommended!

I'm running these strings on my acoustic bass, which sounded great with traditional acoustic strings, but I have fallen in love with these flats. No more finger noise and squeeks when moving around the fret board, nice thump and still enough brightness to keep the whole bass fun.
I really really like these, highly recommend stringing these on your rig, especially on an acoustic bass.
Son algo menos agudas o brillantes en el sonido que las de entorchado redondo, pero compensa el tocar mas cómodamente. ¡Me han gustado!
