I always read the negative ratings before I buy an item, and usually it becomes clear when a product is really sub-par, or when it’s the users whose unreasonable expectations, impatience, inability to follow instructions, or misuse of the item causes a problem. Clearly, complaints about this product fall into the latter category. For example, someone complained that batteries were not included, another that there were no “refills” included, and another that it was “too complicated.”
You get exactly what is described in the product description. The product is solidly built of quality materials, and looks attractive. It operates as described with flexible programing for automated delivery of a variety of scents. While it’s true that the setup instructions for this device are sketchy at best, and figuring everything out may take a little time and patience, it’s not rocket surgery. Somebody could (and should) annotate the directions in English, or the language of their choice. But as they say, “A picture is worth a thousand words,” and a thousand words is what Rubbermaid is trying to avoid.
I had difficulty figuring out how to load the canisters: the can collars slip into a set of narrow horizontal slots just below nozzle pressing mechanisms. The cans won’t lock into place unless the collars are in the slots, not below them. I initially tried to load them below the slots.
If I understand correctly I have it set to fire hourly for 18 hours daily. I might have to adjust the timing – currently the Cotton-Berry/Citrus scent is very strong in my kitchen, living room, dining room and hallway with the dispenser central to those areas (near the air intake for my furnace/AC unit). I don’t have a problem with the level of scent because I have two cats, cat boxes and a dog with gas.
I feel that I got what I paid for.

Great odor control
We have five cats and this unit along with the Rubbermaid Commercial Microburst Duet refill go a long way in eliminating rather than covering up offensive odors. I have programmed the unit for 90 day refill replacement, 24/7 odor control 7 days a week. So far this has been our best odor control solution, ever. It seems that some folks are having problems with this unit not spraying correctly. I've uploaded pictures showing one possible reason. In the picture depicting improper loading of the cartridge (the left picture)please notice that the tabs on the cartridge are not resting within the slots of the dispenser unit. You'll notice that the tabs on either side of the nozzles (picture on the right) are fitted into the corresponding slots on the dispenser unit when the cartridge is loaded correctly. Hope this helps. Also need to hit the on/off button after changing the cartridges to reset the count on the display.

I loved setting up this little device to keep my bathroom smelling great. The setting up part wasn't as intuitive as I would have liked. The instructions were lacking, especially for a device that is supposed to be for commercial applications. However, once you have it set up, it works great.
Had worked great, until one day I needed to switch out the canisters as it was displaying canisters as being empty. When I installed the new refill, nothing happened. Turned it off and on again, took out the batteries, tried pressing a bunch of buttons, but nothing made it change from thinking I had not put in a new refill. $65.52 down the drain and I'm not going to pay $78.86 for a brand new one — way more than I originally paid and not worth it. Nothing I've tried has got it working again. Also, of course, it only has a 1-year warranty, so I can't have it replaced.
I will say this, for those that are buying for commercial applications or in general, DO NOT BUY!
