Wonderful sound but broken.

I am struggling with this review as I have had to return this instrument. Unfortunately the pick/up does not function (despite battery changes) and arrived to me with the screws which retain the P/U, stripped. I was prepared to epoxy the screws in place but once I finally plugged in the P/U and noticed it didn't work I had to give up.
The instrument itself is beautiful. It plays every bit as well as it looks despite the tired strings it arrived with. I really enjoyed this uke and am very sad to see it go. I am torn regarding reordering this same instrument as I am concerned over both it's quality and, more importantly, the quality control of Oscar Schmidt. That uke should have never left the factory with the stripped screws and unsecured pick up. It was visually obvious.

I have given 4 stars despite the problems as it plays so well, sounds beautifully mellow, and is just so much fun. I am very disappointed that mine had these faults. I don't know what to do; give them another chance or move along elsewhere. I am a bit angry at the situation and think that Amazon should make sure I don't have to pay shipping for a replacement. Makes me less likely to order it through them as they offer me nothing; shipping is not insignificant for me as I live in Alaska.

I would have loved if this. Nice looking, but I feel an instrument like this should come ready to play. EVERY string buzzed after tuning. Very disappointing. Sent it back and got another Kala to play with my son. Out of box with no fuss. Shame on Oscar Schmidt for not providing a "ready to play" experience.

Popping frets and excessive relief.

Multiple frets popping up. Excessive relief in the neck. I didn't even take the time to plug it in to check out the preamp. I will be returning it asap. It does have a good sound though. I also found it very physically comfortable to play. Looks pretty. Too bad for the neck issues. I would've kept it. At $128, this is no toy. I expect it to be playable.
