Nice Medium Weight Iron with Great Steam
When this iron arrived, I was not sure if I liked it or not as its appearance was not very exciting...just gray, dark gray, and silver. The weight was fairly good. I know that you do not want an iron to be too light, as the weight helps with pressing. However, too heavy can be taxing. This product is an average weight, which is fine for me. My main concern was how much steam it would produce. I read in the manual that you only want to use tap water in this particular iron. I always thought I was pampering my irons by putting distilled water in them even when they called for tap water. WRONG! I did my research and learned that some irons are actually designed to use only tap water and will function better and longer with tap water. Apparently, it has something to do with the iron needing the minerals from the water. This totally floored me, and I had to look up a couple other articles to verify it. Some irons work best with distilled water. Some work with a blend of distilled and tap, but some only take tap water. Learn something new every day! This iron uses tap water and comes with a little plastic pitcher for pouring the water into the iron. The iron makes a lot of steam and has all the usual heat settings. It also has buttons either to spray water or to make a burst of steam. These buttons work great. It also has the usual auto off for both standing or horizontal positions. The only feature I do not like about this iron (other than the color) is that the water reservoir in the iron is rather opaque. It is very difficult to see how much water is in the iron. If you hold the iron up to a light, you can sort of see how much water is in it. I usually just end up shaking the iron a little to hear how much water is left. This iron has a self-clean feature, which is recommended that you use once a month. It is also strongly recommended that you empty the iron after each use. I used to always leave my water in my iron in between uses. Another no-no. I highly recommend that buyers read the manual that comes with this iron. I usually just pick up a new iron and plug it in, but I learned a lot from reading this manual. It does a good job of explaining all the features. All in all, this iron came very highly recommended when I did my research before purchasing it. It was also available at a fabulous price. I guess I can live with the color based on how well the iron functions. If you are looking for a good medium-weight iron at a decent price, this one was the iron that was most highly recommended when doing my research before purchasing my new iron. I'm only giving it four stars based on the aesthetic features of the iron. It actually performs like a five-star iron.

This is a good iron for the money. After trying 2 Rowenta irons from COSTCO and 1 Sunbeam Steammaster iron from here (Amazon), this iron has proven awesomely better. Previous to the Rowentas I had an iron that was a decade old and finally quit - I guess I can't get one like that again. Then came the 2 Rowentas and the Sunbeam. They lasted less than 1 year each, failing for different reasons. I had to to oder two of these Maytag irons, BTW: the first one had obviously been used (there was water in the tank - sheesh! - and the box was crushed) and it had to be re-returned. The second one I got was new, and it has been fine. It heats up quickly, there is always enough steam with minimal dribbling/spitting, the steam distribution is very good (even), and even though it's nice and light it presses well for removing wrinkles. Some reviewers have complained about the small tank, or the tank being hard to fill. So far, that has not been an issue for this user - filling a little more often is no big deal, and actually hardly noticed. However, this is for just a few people - if you are ironing a lot of clothes for more than about 3 people, maybe it's an issue. It's not much harder to fill as other irons I have used in the past, I just keep the water in a small dispenser near the ironing board. I would say: don't pass up this iron if that is your only concern and you are in this price range (under $70-ish). If it lasts more than 1 year, this is a complete winner.

I was looking to replace a Black and Decker steam iron I had for 30 years and loved. I had no idea how challenging it would be to replace. I tried Rowenta, Sunbeam, and another Black and Decker and then found this gem. I love it!! It is just the right size and weight (others are huge, bulky, heavy), heats up quickly, produces great steam, and glides easily over different materials. The removable water compartment is so ingenious and easy to use. I actually love ironing. Only two small criticisms. It would be better for the water compartment to be clear rather than blue. It's a little hard to see the water line. And I would love for all iron manufacturers to return to a longer and less flexible cord manager. My old iron had a rubber "tube" that was about 3 inches long which kept the cord away from the ironing board and clothing. The newer irons are using a swivel mechanism that is about an inch long so the cord runs right along the ironing board and clothing.

WOW. Who would have thought I would write a review about a clothes iron?!?!? This iron is wonderful. Have been using for several months, and can't say enough good things about it. This gets to temperature (even on hottest setting) within 20-25 seconds. You actually hear it click when the thermostat cuts off the heat...when you turn this sucker on, be ready to iron RIGHT THEN because it will be ready. I was a bit concerned about the stainless steel face versus a teflon type of finish...it's great. Glides right over clothes. Because this heats so quickly, I believe it is why it is such a great steam iron because the steam keeps coming out evenly and non-stop as you iron (I have found previous irons would cool off slightly and you might have to wait a few seconds for it to steam again). A small nice-to-have is the little plastic reservoir pouring cup that comes with it...you can fill the cup up in the sink and easily fill the iron with it without spilling water. Would buy this again in a heartbeat.

YEARS LATER UPDATE:
So I still LOVE this iron. I did have an issue about a year in where I got a warranty replacement due to the stainless plate wearing out from likely too much heat. Kind of weird. Second one has lasted longer. Would just say that I never thought I would prefer a stainless surface over the nonstick/teflon type...won't consider anything BUT stainless from here on out.

I hate ironing. Just hate it. This little iron is just my speed. Super easy to figure out, simple dial to set temperature, great weight, amazingly quick to get to temperature, and does the trick. Only drawback is that it's corded, and the cord (like any corded iron) can be a bit annoying. All in all, a great iron. Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is a good iron for applying veneer
Reviewed in Canada on March 5, 2021
Size: M200Color: BlueVerified Purchase
I didn't buy this to iron clothes with, I bought it to apply wood veneer edging, in my shop!
Wood veneer edging comes with hot melt glue backing. This iron generates more than enough heat for applying veneer, and the stainless sole plate does not mark the wood.
I bought this to replace an older iron with a teflon-coated sole plate, which had worn to the point where its metal (aluminum?) was leaving dark marks on my wood. Can't have that, so it was time for a change.
This iron works well for my purposes, and no... we will not be ironing clothes with it. :-)
