Product Description

RED SERIES sets provide superior performance over traditional strings for musicians who love bright sounds and powerful voicing across the full scale of the instrument. You never heard a sound like this before, simply because before it did not exist.,A unique feeling and a strong, consistent sound. Until now, it was necessary to increase the gauge of a string for it to produce a lower-pitched note. But increasing the string’s diameter also increases internal dampening. That makes the string less bright, less responsive and more muffled; the thicker the string, the duller the sound. Our revolutionary new approach — unique to us — changes the specific weight of the material, increasing it progressively to leave the gauge almost unchanged.

OMG! No really. These strings are a completely different animal. I have been playing on strings (guitar and ukes) for 30 years. I just got these from Amazon for my Kala baritone. Yes, the strings they replaced were also made by Aquila, but these red things are so different and enjoyable that I cannot help make the comparison that the switch was like going from driving a Honda Civic to driving a Bentley Continental (never actually been inside a Continental, but I can imagine....) these strings are are so true to pitch - and so rich in tone, with a bright attack and a warm (gut like) timbre which sustains nicely (forever) and I cannot recommend spending the extra 3 or 4 bucks to experience the sheer smokey velvet luxury of these strings (ok, that was a bit rich) but really they are fine, fine strings. BTW - I have never written a review for anything I have bought before this!

Love these strings. I have an OU55CE Oscar Schmidt Baritone and it is always a task at the music store to find strings I like. I ordered these not knowing what they would be like and they sound amazing. They stay in tune very well and I really like the deep tones added to the D and G strings(they are wound) the B and E strings are red as expected. Would recommend this to anyone looking for a better sound out of their Uke!

I chose these strings for my Oscar Schmidt OU53. The instrument had a lovely tone with the original (old) strings, but it came alive with reds!!! The tone is crisper and the sustain is lovely. It makes the original old Aquila strings sound like I was playing with a damper of some sort. I highly recommend and will definitely be buying these again!

I play a Kala . It's the solid Acacia model. It came with the Aquila Nylgut strings and I've swapped those out a couple of times using the Aquila "New Nylgut" in the Brown package. Those strings have been impressive, but I thought I'd venture forth and try a set of Reds.

They sound great. Very full and bright, but when I changed to these strings, I encountered a bad buzz on the D and E strings. To eliminate it, I had to shim the nut and the bridge saddle. It wasn't a particularly difficult task, but I'm not sure why it was necessary. Perhaps there's a greater oscillation in the strings when they vibrate than there is in the original strings. That's the reason for the 4 stars. If I hadn't had to play luthier, I'd have given them 5 stars.

Hopefully, I'm an isolated case: I like these strings and I"m planning on using them for the foreseeable future.

Now if Aquila comes out with a few more interesting strings for the baritone ukulele,.. :))

Love these strings. Whenever anyone hears me playing my ukulele, they're normally first taken aback at it's size (being a baritone and all) and secondly as the sound. These strings are beautiful, the low-d tuning is my favourite to begin with but these guys really work. I took my ukulele to Colorado and was expecting there would be some sort of problem with the change in elevation and weather so I bought a few extra packs but they didn't snap! They can also take a pretty serious beating, I haven't had to replace them. I was apprehensive when I first put them on because one of the strings snapped at the end, luckily there was enough left on top that I just re-threaded it and haven't had any problems sense. They took about a week to break in fully. If anyone is curious, I use a Caramel CB103 and I do use it for both electric and acoustic songs.

I haven't had these strings on long enough to comment on durability but I can say that they made my new baritone ukelele sound about 100x better. The red strings are supposedly made with the addition of copper. They happen to look beautiful to. Very happy with these strings. I will use these until one breaks then try the D'Adarrio nylon for a comparison. For now, I am happy with these.

5.0 out of 5 stars Rendu sonore exceptionnel pour ukulélé baryton
Reviewed in France on August 10, 2019
Style: SingleVerified Purchase

5.0 out of 5 stars FANTASTIC SWEET TONE, great sustain
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on June 28, 2015
Style: SingleVerified Purchase
I've had GHS and Aquila Nylgut on my Ohana baritone uke, plus a couple of other brands of wound strings as those wear out faster. When I noticed my D and G strings about to snap, I decided to try the Red Series and replace all four, keeping the higher two as spares. These reds are fantastic! Beautiful sweet tone and more sustain than other strings. The balance between all four strings is spot-on, too, and 24 hours after fitting the strings, they're still in perfect tune.

One thing with Aquila Red series: be sure to WATCH THE VIDEO on aquila's website about how to tune them up. They're fragile, so if you just whack them on and spin the tuners, they'll snap either right then, or a short while later. You need to keep them out of the slot on the nut as you tighten them up. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tGH1d8IP_Us
