This has been a great charger, we've bought several and have not been disappointed. I can't speak for the other reviews but we have received the correct order everytime and they have worked perfectly. This company also carries 8/2 chargers that are much less than some of the stronger chargers they have. I think that lesser charger would be ideal for chickens or rabbits, not dogs or livestock. We use the 40/10 for our goats, pigs, and dogs. I would personally use it also for our chickens as a stronger charger would ensure coyotes steer clear of them.I've tested the fence bare footed to truly see how animals would fair with it. It works let's just say that. Lol I wouldn't recommend doing this total disclousure. 😂The electricity pulses, it isn't a constant stream of electricity which is perfect.Lowes has metal slotted rods you can use for the grounding rod and we just bought insulated copper wiring to connect the fence to charger and charger to ground. If the fence starts to lose it's charge I would check for oxidation of your wiring if you use copper wiring like us. A clean cut and new wiring exposed to the fence and ground fixed this issue for us and this time we wrapped the wire attached to the fence with electrical tape to insulate it and help prevent oxidation. It didn't oxidize for many many months so you by no means have to use the tape, just be mindful of this if it starts to lose charge. These energizers are NOT meant to be in the weather so you'll need to make a covering for them. We merely screwed a small plastic tote to a 2X4 and garden stake then hung the energizer inside of it.Please don't believe every bad review on fence energizers as more often than not it's the error of the person not the product.Would recommend. 👍

This was used to power an electric fence to prevent Javalina from breaking into the skirting of a mobile home. They hit it once but never thereafter.

This fence charger works very well. I thought it was supposed to charge a fence with 5,000 volts, but my fence tester says it charges it with over 9,000 volts. The voltage seems to fluctuate. Tonight it was 9,640. Last night the tester read 10,000. It won't test any higher than that. Animals have tried to get into my sweet corn twice over the last week, as evidenced by what they left behind outside the fence. They changed their minds. Please, please do not use this charger to keep dogs (or any pet) in the yard. You will end up with a terrified, neurotic pet. I use a three-foot copper grounding rod and a four strand fence using 17-gauge aluminum wire.

This was a pretty easy product to set up. It doesn't sit really nice flat against the wall as it is so light. Also.. My main problem with it is that the post were super big/wide and my electric connectors could not go over them to tighten down. I had to strip the wire and wrap around posts instead. They should have used thin posts like most models do and this would be more user friendly. But, overall, it seems to be a decent unit. Time will tell in the elements.

I bought this unit (based and the price point and reviews) to protect the group of 3 Pecan Trees from squirrels on my 1 acre homestead. I am pleased with my purchase (5 star rating) and I believe the unit is as advertised and is producing enough power to energize my system. The squirrels decimate my Pecan crop each year by munching on the pecans and throwing them to waste, before they even ripen!. And these squirrel aren't even all mine. Like clockwork, the squirrels arrive from the entire neighborhood to feast on my crop each year . The Patriot PE 10 is hooked to the long insulated-wire underground-run up each tree to a height of ten feet to a circle of electric-fence wire on insulators and then down and underground to the next. Time has proven that my design might not be adequate for the emboldened squirrels I am trying to keep out of the trees. After installation, I watched closely as the storm of hungry squirrels marched over and up the trunks of the trees, unscathed. Since this is a pulse unit, the squirrels climb right over the energized ring of wire without being shocked. Maybe they are being shocked, but not enough to deter them. I am going back to the drawing board to add an additional band around around each tree so the squirrels can't get by. I have decided to install a hardware-cloth-ring on insulators on each tree as well. I hope I'm not too late. I haven't gotten a single pecan to eat in the 17 years I've lived here and this is WAR! All I've been allowed to do is grow gorgeous, nutritious nuts; watch as squirrels pluck them, take one bite, and toss them down on me (laughing); and repeat. And then I'm allowed to pick up the ruined nuts by the bucket-load, and throw them away before I mow each week. I'm discouraged but not beaten. Yet.

I bought this to replace a solar unit from the same company. We had a very hard time getting it to work, we called the company and someone called us back, he explained that we had the wrong grounding rods, we also replaced the hot wire because there were so many splices and different wires. It works great, the horses are safely contained.

My neighbor children (4 and 6) liked to play with my old charged fence. They laughed at the tingle they got from it. Now they stay away. They told me about the shock they got from the new one and don't want to play with it anymore. That's good because I doubt that the fence will hurt them. The neighbor dogs learned from my old charger not to get too close. I put a deer camera aimed at the protected garden and caught a squirrel and one racoon touch it and jump and run away. The squirrels and rabbits can simply jump over the fence but I haven't had the camera set up at the right time yet to catch them. I've only had it up for a couple of weeks .
