I bought this to replace the volume pedal board have been using on my pedal board. The one I had on there worked perfectly but was just taking up too much room on my board and also required power so it also took up space in my power supply. This pedal takes up way less room on my board and it's still easily big enough to use properly. It is a perfect size volume pedal. I have many other Boss pedals as well and they are built very sturdy. This is all metal and very sturdy and the pedal is very smooth to use for volume swells. It doesn't require a power source either which is great and even has a tuner jack (I'm not using that but it's great to have the option)

Originally I had a Dunlop Mini VP on my board, but there were impedance issues with my drives since I run my volume pedal after my tuner/buffer, compressor and drives. This pedal works perfect after my drives. Little longer than I'd prefer, but still works well for my application.

What makes it very convenient is I don’t have to run a power cable to it either which frees up more power for an additional pedal. I do feel like my smaller Dunlop volume pedal is a little more accurate but the volume cut off of the boss is better. I had a gig recently and the sound guy had messed something up during sound check and we were getting massive feedback in the monitors so I just tapped it and cut it all off and told him I’d turn it back up once he turned everything down. He actually thanked me later and explained their new system was temperamental and was thinking about buying one for him to use in his sound booth just to cut things off quickly.

Another thing I love about this pedal is all the input and output is on the top/front. Sounds like a small thing to bring up but when I added this pedal to my more compact pedal board I made it was wonderful because I used angled patchwork cables and just had to run them under and through the front, freeing up about a half inch of space of both sides which I used to my advantage. Despite its long size it squeezes well into pedal board set ups. It’s easier to land your foot on than my previous miniature Dunlop volume pedal too which is important live.

As you'd expect from Boss, it's a solidly built pedal. I like the smaller form factor, too. Of course it works to raise and lower volume.

My only nitpick is that the sweep of volume change isn't as broad as I'd like. There's definitely a point where it's just "off" and for my taste that point is a little too close to full toe down (100% volume). That means that the range of motion of 0% to 100% is narrower than I'd prefer, meaning I have to be very gentle with it when doing volume swells (my primary use). It takes some getting used to, which is something you'll want to consider.

- Volume taper isn't the greatest.

So, I understand that based on the impedance value of the pedal, it is intended to modulate an "active" signal, such as a keyboard or after a guitar pedal chain. (The other version is supposed to be for a direct, passive signal such as a guitar with no pedals in front of it.) I have several Boss pedals (which are buffered) before this volume pedal, yet the volume is 0 until the pedal is about 1/3 of the way engaged. After that, the last 2/3 has an OK taper. It would be nice if there was some type of adjuster knob built into the pedal that would allow you to modify the point at where the pedal engages, given that all signals are never going to be exactly the same. It would be perfect then.

Very well built pedal. But the range of volume is not spread evenly over the sweep. Most of the volume cut, like about 80 to 85% happens within a short sweep from the toe point. After that it cuts rest of the volume till heel point. This makes it tricky to use quickly to find required volume. I wish the volume cut was more evenly distributed. That would have made this pedal perfect. While I don't exactly regret buying it, I will consider something else if I have to buy again. But better quality ones are priced higher than this.
