- Pitching is lame. You have a choice of where to pitch horizontally but not vertically. You can choose somewhat between a fastball, in the dirt and a bit of a curve. But again, it's only horizontal. There's no sinking curve. Just lame.
- Batting is virtually impossible. I say virtually because even a blind squirrel gets a nut every now and then. The speed at which you pitch is vastly different than the speed at which the computer pitches. So your timing is off when you try to swing.
- Another note about batting. The pitches are coming so fast, and your batter is swinging so slow, you have to decide to swing well before you can determine if it's going to be a ball or a strike.
- There's no batting practice mode. You're playing a full game against an opponent or you're not.
- You can't adjust the batter's eye. The only angle is from ABOVE the batter. No change whether you're pitching or hitting, same view.
I got it on pre-order for $15 because I'm a Prime member. Worst $15 I've ever spent. What a waste.
Now if you've never played this, it's a very simple baseball game. This isn't The Show. It's basically a one button game.
Short list of positives and negatives.
Positives: Roster did an update when I first turned the game on. Seems there is an option in the setting to update, so if there are mid-season trades and such, maybe the roster can be updated to reflect that. As I'm an Indians fan, checking my roster seemed exactly how their opening day roster would be. The pics had a few players from their old teams (in their uniforms), but that's ok as at least they'd been updated to the Indians team.
Pitching - first game I played, I quickly remember that you push the button and pick a direction and that's how the pitch will go. Left/right/up(slow)/down(Fast). Simple. Just like the old days.
Stadiums - Cleveland's looked just like it should. I haven't been there since they updated it this year (I've moved away from OH so haven't been there in years. But it looked like I'd remember.
Negatives:
Sounds - Very 8-bit. I guess the retro feel is cool. But they could have updated the sounds a little.
Hitting - Ok, here is where my issue is. The hitting on normal is just dang near impossible. I'm not sure if it's because my eye-hand is gone, or because it's just freaking impossible to hit. I played 1 game, Indians vs. Yankees. I lost 2-0. Granted not bad, but I only had 2 hits. I'm pretty sure I had 25 strikeouts, lol.
Neutral:
Outfielding - You can turn auto fielding on, or off if you feel like looking like a fool. I tried both. With it off, I couldn't catch anything. I'll need some practice.
Gfx - I know this isn't the show, but it's not 1993 either. It pretty much looks like PS2 gfx. If you're ok with that, then no biggie. I wasn't expecting Xbox one look, but maybe PS3/Xbox 360.
Anyhow, if you're just looking to play a few games here and there, for less than $20 (I think I paid $15.99 with PRIME), it's worth it. If anything just to get that baseball feel out of my system for a bit.
If you see The Show and hope this is somewhat close... keep looking cause you'll be a sad panda.
Hope this helped... (and Go Tribe!).
