I got a quick response from the Aklot customer service team, and learned that the pin placement I had thought was a problem…wasn’t. :facepalm: They even posted a nifty video on their FB page to show how to properly attach the strap on the left handed ukulele. I tried posting a link, but Amazon refused my review update when I did that, so I left it out this time.
My previous experience with playing a stringed instrument was the electric bass guitar thirty years ago, and that giant, heavy instrument was held by a strap with a very different pin setup. That’s why I was confused at how the ukulele strap was supposed to fit!
Now that I see that the strap feeds behind the neck, the pin placement makes much more sense. I am still not sure how my fingers will access the higher frets without my hand striking the pin, but with lots of practice, I will figure it out!
I am leaving my original, totally wrong review, just in case any other left-handers have the same confusion that I did. This beautiful mahogany ukulele with, gig bag, strap, tuner, and picks really is a great deal!

I am left handed, and decided to finally buy myself a ukulele in order to learn this fun instrument. This mahogany ukulele is beautiful to look at, and seems solidly made- but it has a significant flaw: the pin for the strap is installed on the wrong side of the neck. I have included pictures to show what I mean, but when I wrap my right hand around the neck (as lefties do), I can’t comfortably reach the higher frets because the pin is in the way.
If I did attach the strap and tried to play left handed, the strap would make things even worse, and the ukulele would never hang properly from the strap unless I wore it as a right handed player would.
I thought maybe Aklot had sent me a right-handed ukulele by mistake, but when I looked closer, I could see the fret markings on the top of the neck were along the edge of the neck that a lefty would be able to see when they were playing, and the strings were strung as a lefty would need.
So, my guess is that several people work on a single instrument in their factory, and the person who installed my strap pins is used to pinning right handed instruments, and just zoned out and installed the neck pin on the wrong side.
I’m still giving three stars because the mahogany is gorgeous, the tone of the instrument is lovely, and it’s a great value for money considering you get a soft gig bag, a strap, a clip on tuner and a cleaning cloth. Truly a nice beginner kit!

Surprising Quality and Value for a Reasonable Price
I've now owned the AKLOT Concert Ukulele for three weeks and am learning to play from absolute beginner level. After reading SO many reviews, not only on this ukulele but on several others, I am incredibly pleased with my purchase. First, the craftsmanship of all the wood and parts is truly beautiful. It seems shocking that you could get such quality for this price (I had been warned by other enthusiasts to expect to invest about $100 for a decent instrument, not including accessories). Second, I expected, after reading how common it is for less expensive Ukuleles to go easily out of tune, that I would need to tune it not only before every practice session, but even potentially multiple times during a practice session. I am so happy to report that I have been practicing for an hour each day and begin each practice by checking the tuning and have only needed to tune it ONCE in 21 sessions!One of the most unexpected surprises was with Customer Service; I discovered upon receiving my AKLOT that the digital tuning device was not able to tune the "C" note. I used some online tools to do my first tuning (it actually arrived almost perfectly tuned! It required very minor adjustments!) and reached out via email to the manufacturer. I received a reply within 48 hours (also a surprise) with the suggestion to replace the battery. It requires a CR2032 watch battery, so I "borrowed" one from another device to test the theory. It worked perfectly!! Once I let them know their suggestion worked, they immediately responded that they would reimburse me for a battery!I could not be happier with my purchase and this company. I've nearly mastered "I've been Working on the Railroad", "Happy Birthday", and "You are my Sunshine", so I am well on my way to stardom with the help of AKLOT.

I ended up having to replace the first one that came because it had a weird tuning peg. The second one (the replacement) has no issues at all, but there are some design differences between it and the first one and you could receive either version when ordering. The first one with the wonky peg was completely smooth--like glass--everywhere. Body, sides, top, neck, fingerboard, bridge. The entire instrument was completely smooth. The replacement is almost completely smooth but has an unfinished fingerboard and bridge, as well as a very small number of "open pores" on the top, sides and body. The first one was prettier but honestly, the second finish is more practical and easier to hold onto. So just be aware that what you receive could have a shiny fingerboard and bridge or it could have a plain versions and the body/top/sides may not be glass-smooth. But they might be!
The ukulele itself is impeccably made and quite striking to look at. Feels good and balanced when holding and playing it. Has a really interesting tone with harmonics and sustain that's mainly in the lower end. You may also notice differences in tone depending on how much of the back you have against your body, so I'd recommend you experiment with positioning. Came with a good set-up (both did) so it's easy to play. Frets are dressed well. White inlaid fret markers and side markers can be a little hard to see against the blonde bamboo if not in bright light. Compensated saddle helps with intonation. Absolutely amazing deal at $49.99 that only gets better with the accessories.
The gig bag is very good and well-padded. Comes with a tuner, strap and humidifier. You will want to pay attention to humidification if you live in a dry area or an area that requires central heating because bamboo instruments can crack if they get dehydrated. Although it's a solid bamboo ukulele, the sheets of bamboo that comprise the top, back and sides are made by gluing strips of bamboo together side by side, left to right. As long as you treat the uke the way you'd treat any solid wood stringed instrument, it should be fine. Avoid rapid, severe temperature swings, temperature extremes and humidify it when conditions warrant.
If you've considered this ukulele, you should get it!
