I was really looking forward to this game, my wife and I really enjoy playing Monopoly. While the game itself is very fun, and it is very well thought out. I really like the "living" boards, quite a bit of detail. However, there is a large flaw in this game and that is the loading times. When I first started up the game it was on the loading screen for a good two minutes, I actually restarted the game as I thought it froze. I then noticed the long loading screen was still there when I restarted. The menu, once I got to it, was well laid out and easy to navigate. I started up my first game, and it took a good 5 minutes to load. And towards the end of the load screen the music stopped and it started to say random things about the board before it even loaded all the way. This continued for about a minute or so before it actually loaded all the way. The game after that played fairly well with only minor drops in frame rate. It played much like the Xbox One version that came out last year. I really hope an update fixes the loading times as it really does take away from the gameplay experience.
It's nice to take this on the go because my girlfriend and I enjoy playing the board game together. I think it was a good buy, just be sure to download and install any patches required before leaving the house. The game arrived as we were preparing to leave the house for a road trip and instead of downloading and installing the first-day patch I just took the game with us still in the shrink wrap. BIG MISTAKE unless you are going somewhere with good internet.
The boards a cool, the Halloween/horror themed board is our favorite by far.
I can't think of a lot of things to say, it's Monopoly, but for the Nintendo Switch. If you enjoy Monopoly a lot, own a Switch, and want to play Monopoly during road trips, or while away from home and don't want to lug around the actual game and worry about paper money and making sure everything is present before and after play time then this game is for you.
The graphics of the game, and the easy controls make it a good family game. The developers did a good job with the overall design and how they implemented many of the UI components.
If you only have a basic knowledge of the rules in monopoly, this game may not be for you. There is very little explanation, so I would not recommend this game to people who infrequently play the game.
The developers added some optional new rules and some common “house rules” which you can play with. I dislike the new rules (action cards) that they added. They increase the “chance” factor of the game, but mostly feel unbalanced and unfair. Especially when your enemy plays the “swap cash” action card which gives your $1800 to them and their $23 to you. Also, you can only play with one house rule at a time, which doesn’t bother me (we don’t play with house rules) but might bother someone who wants both the Free Parking Cash and Double Go.
Overall, I’m not particularly satisfied with the game, but for $20 it plays well enough. I certainly hope they fix more of the bugs as time goes on.
BUGS:
Once you obtain a “get out of jail free” card, the game will Always let you get out of jail free, even if you already used the card.
This next bug happens when you roll doubles and land on a chance card and draw “advance to the nearest utility”. If that utility is owned, the game will immediate make you roll again, but you will not move. Then you will be forced to pay the rent for the space and your turn will end.
Another bug we found (but could not replicate) resulted in a player with $20 buying a $220 property for only $11. The buy button was not grated out, and when the player pressed Buy the game sold the property.
