I have ordered this assortment bag thru Amazon several times before with no problems. I don't recall who the seller(s) was in the past so this may be a different retailer. It's obvious that these candies weren't stored properly. Most are difficult to remove from the wrappers, especially if the candy has caramel in it. I know chocolate, which has bloomed, is safe to eat and that the taste isn't adversely affected; however, I won't put these in my candy dish for guests to eat.
I have ordered these sugar free candies many times in the past. This last order that was sent to me in August were beyond eating. Not just a few, but every piece was either melted at some point, smashed in transit or just plain awful like it had been sitting on the shelf for a long time. This is very unlike Russell Stover. What happened?
As is true with any sugar free candy that contains sugar alcohols, this candy can cause digestive issues. Eating a couple per day won't bother most people. I actually use this medicinally when I get a bit bound up and need a little help 'getting going' if you catch my drift. Just keep that in mind before you gobble up half a bag.
I really like all of the flavors for the most part. The caramels and pecan caramels are my favorites. Only the mint patties are a little bit of a disappointment. The cream filling is more paste like than a cream and it has only a very mild mint flavor. Otherwise, they all make a tasty treat if eaten in moderation.
One last note, however - while these candies are sugar free, they are not carb free. Each candy has about 9 carbs, so diabetics need to take that into account and compensate for it.
I have been keto for almost 6 months now. Most sugar free candy is make with sugar alcohol and have horrible side effects. This candy is made with Stevia. I can not tell the difference between the normal Russel Stover's candy and the sugar free. It is THAT Good!!! Buy this. I am hooked.
The person that received this candy thanked me for it. She said there were several pieces of chocolate that were good and a variety not like the ones in the stores.
