About this item
- BOURBON VANILLA BEANS- Whole extract Grade B Madagascar vanilla beans are processed using the "Bourbon" curing method. Slofoodgroup traditional Bourbon Vanilla Beans offer a rich, creamy, and familiar vanilla flavor which is well-suited for both hot and cold preparations. Slofoodgroup extract grade vanilla beans from Madagascar are traditionally grown and cured using natural methods and practices ensuring the best possible quality vanilla beans available.
- EXTRACT GRADE - Grade B Madagascar vanilla beans have an average moisture content of 24-27%, the international standard for making vanilla extract. As is the case with most Grade B vanilla beans, our vanilla beans may contain cosmetic blemishes, splits, or other physical imperfections. A usual characteristic for this type of vanilla bean is red variegations up and down the vanilla pod.
- PURE VANILLA - Grade B vanilla beans have a distinct flavor and aroma profile that makes them the most popular and sought after vanilla variety. Our Madagascar Vanilla Beans are well rounded, rich, creamy and bold due to the high concentrations of vanillin. These extract grade vanilla pods add a sweet, chocolatey, warm, and aromatic flavor to any recipe.
- PERFECT FOR EXTRACT -These vanilla beans are perfect for making vanilla extract as they offer a stronger, more intense vanilla flavor which also makes them great for use in an array of baked goods, desserts, custards, vanilla extract, and even more savory dishes. Once a bean pod has been scraped, you can save the pod in a container of sugar or infuse it in a spirit of choice.
- EASY TO STORE - The ideal storage conditions for vanilla beans are cool, dry areas, such as a pantry or spice cupboards that avoid direct sunlight. The additional use of tightly sealed bags or containers are always recommended. We recommend purchasing only the amount you need for making your vanilla extract but if you need to store your vanilla beans for prolonged periods of time, it is recommended to air out your vanilla beans to prevent moisture build up around the pod.

Important information
10 Madagascar vanilla beans, grade B vanilla
To make vanilla extract, please follow specific size recipe that is included on each package. For best results chop vanilla beans into .25-.5 in pieces. We recommend a minimum of .83 ounce of vanilla for every 8 ounces of liquid. From our best estimates this is on average 5-8 vanilla beans from this listing. Shake often and allow to properly age for a minimum of 45-90 days. Filter lightly and enjoy in your favorite baking recipes.

BUY THEM. Kwanzaa 2020 was a hit, and 2021? I was stressed OUT! So I bought the beans AGAIN, but this time in December... and ain open the package yet. OK. Sealed, in the pantry in the dark? Totally FINE.
Great value, great product. BUY THEM Grade "BEEEEES," Baby!
November 2020:
My typical Winter Holiday gifting is none at all, with a bit of sharing home-baked goods every now and then. I am not Scrooge, I'm just generous year round. This year has been incredibly interesting, and I am gifting a few folks who have made the past 10 months... palatable (thank 2020, not me!).
The 4 oz. of Slofood Vanilla Beans I received October 8, 2020 yielded 54 beans, and this may be significant, as 10/8 may be the end of last season's stash, meaning I may have more beans for the usual buck due to slightly lower moisture content per bean. You see, I read somewhere that 10/15 is the the new harvest's shipping date, but that may not be set in stone. They looked good and "oily" while I made my slices, so I am happy and hope for the best!
In any case, December 20 is "attractive bottling day" (Week 10 of the vanilla bean/rum infusing), and I am already READY thanks to Mr. Bezos and Dollar Tree. I will test the strength Week 8 and will top off the rum bottles, if necessary.
Good luck everybody. The aroma started out heavenly!
FEB 2024:
Use EVERY BIT. I know what a lil "8 fold" vanilla smells like in big ol 1917 apple pie with a butter/lard crust. You can, too!
God bless you in Heaven, Grandma, but Walker's? Only for the church picnic!
Happy picklin!

I followed the recipe listed in the advertisement which is approximately 1.2 oz 70 proof alcohol for each 1 vanilla pod (375 ml bottle vodka to 10 pods).
The vendor's recipe as written:
• Select a base alcohol such as vodka, rum, bourbon, or brandy that is 70 proof.
• Allow .83 ounces of vanilla beans/on average 5-8 vanilla beans from this listing (split, scraped, or chopped) for every 1 cup alcohol (3.34 oz vanilla per liter)
• Place ingredients in an airtight container.
• Shake vigorously and continue to do so once or twice a week for 90 days.
The vanilla is ready to use after 90 days, but we advise an extra 30-90 days to allow it to fully mature.."
